Poland’s Personal Data Protection Office (UODO) has initiated an investigation into OpenAI, following a complaint by an unnamed individual. The complainant alleges that OpenAI’s ChatGPT processed his data in an illegal and unreliable manner, also stating that the company didn’t fulfill his requests as per the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) guidelines.
This isn’t the first time that OpenAI has been scrutinized over possible GDPR non-compliance. Earlier this year, Italian data protection authorities temporarily blocked the AI chatbot ChatGPT due to suspected data privacy violations. Similarly, in April, German regulators questioned OpenAI’s compliance with the EU’s stringent data privacy laws.
Despite these allegations, pursuing proceedings against OpenAI might be challenging due to its location outside the European Union. Nevertheless, UODO plans to ask OpenAI several questions to conduct a thorough administrative proceedings.
